The ASCO valve holds a magnetic solenoid tube, which is a cylindrical coil of insulated wires that produce magnetic fields when they are energized correctly. The solenoid valve, like other similar, standard valves, can either be single-threaded, 2-way threaded, 3-way threaded or 4-way threaded, referring to the number of inputs and outputs (entrances and exits) the valves have. General Service valves handle common fluids that don't put too much stress on the valve. For some of the more dangerous, low-temperature fluids such as liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon, a Cryogenic Fluids valve is needed. Vacuum valves are specially designed to regulate and maintain vacuum conditions, a highly demanding task. Finally, Oxygen Service valves are designed to provide a contaminant-free flow of oxygen.
