Asco Control Group: Pressure Sensors

Asco Controls, Asco Cabinets

Ever since the ASCO Company emerged to be one of the leading manufacturers in the HVAC and power technologies industry, technicians and contractors all over the world received a huge helping hand, due to the high quality, extremely easy to use the products. The pressure sensors had their big share in this process, as they revolutionized the way HVAC systems were measured and processed. Basically, the manufacturer pressure sensors redefined the measurement and control of pressure in any gas, liquid or water systems that produce large amounts of pressure.

Their pressure sensors are an extremely easy means of measuring of many process fluids, also reflecting linear electrical output signals. The company pressure sensors can measure pressures of up to 10 000 psi, with the help of the MEM based sensors, which provides stable output to the measuring process. Some of the general features found on most of their pressure sensors, are the panel mounting system, the 316ss pressure vessels, process connections of 1/8-1/2 inch NPT, flying leads, pins, intrinsically safe features, spade terminals and explosion proof measures. The output signal power can be of either 4-20 m Amp or of 1-5 Volts.

The pressure sensors include 4 series: the Series 40 Standard, Series 42 Panel Mount, Series 43 Hazardous Locations and the Series 44 Intrinsically Safe pressure sensors. All of these pressure sensors have a wide operating temperature range and a sturdy stainless steel structure, that lets them operate in the harshest of HVAC environments. The Series 40 Standard models do not use any silicone oil, internal o-rings or welds, operating at pressure ranges of up to 9 000 – 10 000 psi. The rugged design and body construct can withstand a wide temperature range and extreme working conditions in high-shock, vibrating or high corrosion gas or liquid environments.

The Series 42 Panel Mount models are compatible with a wide range of liquids and gases and can be mounted on panels of up to 3” thick. With a pressure cycle of over 100 millions, the electrical output ranges between 0 and 50 mV. Its electrical connections include Molex, cable or flex strips making the device extremely easy to mount and configure, without necessarily having to be a guru in the pressure sensors installation field.

Series 43 Hazardous Location is a special pressure sensor, specifically designed for use in dangerous and risky environments. To withstand any hazards while monitoring and measuring pressure, the models from these series are made out of high strength stainless steel and use no silicone oil and no welds. The construct of this model allows for improved resistance in extreme temperature ranges, also making them suitable for vibration and high shock applications. The model’s performance settings at 77˚F, include an accuracy rating of approximately 0.25% BFSL, a burst pressure of up to 20 000 psi and over 100 million pressure cycles. The electrical connection of the model is a 2 feet standard cable and the pressure fitting is either 1/4” MNPT or 1/2" MNPT. The maximum operating temperature for the Series 43 Hazardous Location models is 185˚ F (85˚ C), while the minimum is somewhere around -40˚ F. The thermal limit’s compensated range goes well over 130˚ F (50˚ C) with a TC span of approximately 1.5-2% of FS. Because of the rough construct, the model can withstand shocks of up to 100G’s and 11 milliseconds and a maximum vibration power of 20G’s and 2000 Hz.

The ASCO Series 44 Intrinsically Safe is compatible with a wide range of gaseous and liquid pressure systems and it operates in a wide temperature range. The 304 stainless steel case protects the pressure sensor from any corrosion effects produced by the handled gas or liquid. Because of this stainless steel media isolated pressure system, the Series 44 Intrinsically Safe models allow working conditions and measurement of up to 10 000 psi. Like the other three pressure sensor models, the Series 44 Intrinsically Safe is also well suited for high shock and vibration applications, because of the solid construct and the rugged design that lets it survive in the harsh environments produced by high-pressure gas or liquid systems. HVAC technicians love these models, because of their extraordinary electrical capabilities: an excitation range of 5-28 VDC, output measures of 1-5 and 4-20 mA, output impedance of 100 Ohms, current consumptions that don’t exceed 25 mA (at maximum usage), a high bandwidth that goes from 1 kHz to 250 Hz tops, reverse polarity abilities, a span tolerance of approximately 2% FS and an output load of 10k Ohms.

Being a leader in the market, the ASCO pressure sensor series could prove an excellent buy and a vital component of your HVAC system. Choose from either the Series 40 Standard, Series 42 Panel Mount, Series 43 Hazardous Locations and the Series 44 Intrinsically Safe pressure sensors and be amazed by their outstanding features and control, measure and manage the pressure of your applications. You will not regret having more control over your HVAC system, since this is what makes many engineers, HVAC technicians or HVAC contractors shiver: lack of total control over what they install.
